But if you overdo it, then the extra barbeque plate that follows the set will be bent, the bottom (the legs) will be bent and possibly the walls themselves, this 'needs' to be fixed in future designs if Bushcraft-Essentials are interested in remaining masters in outdoor stove designs. Start with some birch bark or other tinder, then just add a handful of thin twigs, then some thicker ones, or pine cones. So much so that I wouldn't mind letting my son use it under supervision (because it does produce a heavy flame sometimes). We also got the heavy-duty pouch as this is the perfect size for the stove and attachments to slip into. I never failed starting a fire with this, it never took more than a minute and was easy to feed (though you can't leave it unattended).

If you overload it with fire or tinder, and by that i mean with wood that goes above its surface and does not match the size that keeps itself below its walls; Then chances are the stove will warp in the seemingly all too powerful heat. Unlike some other field stoves I have tried, this stove feels quite solid and stable, and there is little risk of the pots tumbling over. The Bushbox XL Combination bundle includes the Bushbox XL, Universal Grate, and heavy duty outdoor bag. Featuring our unique hinge technology that ensures the hinges never stick, the Bushbox XL is easy to set up and fold, even with gloves or clammy hands. The stove has many cool features but the one feature that stands out to me is its ability to pack down flat for easy packing inside my kit.

The whole design of the Bushboox feels really sturdy and we’ve not encountered any faults in the months we’ve been using it. The Bushbox XL Titanium is well thought-out down to the smallest detail and offers you many possibilities for individual use. I enjoy going out at night and having a drink at the fire and listening to the peepers that surround me. I haven't fired it up yet but I'm very impressed with the quality of the black pouch and the bushbox XL itself.

Compared to a regular open fire it is so much more fuel efficient and it takes almost no effort to use as firewood is ready just picked from the ground, while compared to gas or liquid/solid fuel burners, the feeling of cooking over fire is a whole lot more “true” and back to the roots. High-quality materials and excellent workmanship ensure maximum durability and stability and make the bushbox a durable piece of equipment for your whole life. Putting the trivets into the Bushbox slots for cooking and also storing the trivets on the Bushbox side can be a little fiddly, but this is a very minor thing. The versatility of this stove is demonstrated further with the ability to use a alcohol stove with this setup, which is a great feature if you just want to get a quick brew on but can't be bothered with getting a fire going and just want to use the stove as a impromptu windscreen. It is very intuitive to assemble, I didn't read the instructions and had it all together in about five seconds, although admittedly I had watched several people do it on YouTube. Not the cheapest stove on the market - nor the most expensive - but worth every single Pound, Euro or Dollar. The reason for this is that it extends due to its size over the edge of the stove which in turn results in a colder part - the perfect precondition for warping. Yup, the large grill plate does distort when heated but that is to be expected given the flat nature of the item. To calculate the overall star rating and percentage breakdown by star, we don’t use a simple average.

If Bushcraft Essentials ever stops making this product for some unimaginable reason, and I somehow am parted with mine ( over my cold dead body) and can not replace it. The titanium multifunctional case converts into great stand for the stove when in use and does a lot to prevent scorching under the stove. You can also use it as a multi-fuel stove with petrol, however, we haven’t tested this yet as other fuel options have been easy to come by.

In my opinion if you can afford this one then go for it, the weight saving is noticeable but they are both very good stoves. Also, when intending to use the wood stove outside of official fire places, you need permission from the land owner. But the slide-in module also offers a wide range of other possible uses: Use as a fireproof, dry surface to make feather sticks or scrape bark to start a fire. All our Bushboxes follow the stack effect (or chimney principle): The air flows into the stove from below, causes even damp material to burn and produces strong heat which – thanks to the clever design of the stove - is directed straight upwards and hardly radiates to the sides.

Gladly gloves you use in the garden to soil in the dirt, or those that construction workers use, these are fodder for damage and will go into the fire for you, saving you the expensive outdoor gloves for you for their safer purpose. Bushcraft Essentials was founded in 2012 with the vision of providing basic, functional and high-quality equipment to the steadily growing Bushcraft movement and all people who enjoy nature. Safety should not be a concern because your fire is about 2 cm from the ground and you have the ash collector that prevents the hot ashes to light an accidental fire. It allows quick and mobile outdoor cooking fires in places it would be impossible to have a fire on the ground. To keep your pots and the kitchen itself cleaner, it is generally better to choose “clean” wood like birch, rather than resin rich wood like pine or spruce, as the latter will generate more smoke and grime. Naturally, starting the stove using wood takes longer, but means that I don’t need to use my emergency denatured alcohol. You should also be careful when choosing where to place the Bushbox as glowing embers will fall through and can cause fire to spread.
