It starts with the premise of Nikki losing her diary and then presenting her diary tips to make up for the loss. Throughout the Dork Diaries series, Nikki has given many different kinds of gifts to her friends and family, including budget-saving handmade items, last-minute convenience presents, cherished items that are hard to share, and gifts that might also benefit her—like a dinner gift certificate for two. If I had to be one of the characters in this book it would be Brianna, Nikki's little sister. Her sister and her make squirt guns to kill the tooth fairy, because Brianna is afraid of the tooth fairy. It sounds like Brianna is a funny little squirt too! She annoys her sister sometimes, but it's funny. She is a fun character in this book. Nikki worries a lot about being seen doing things like dancing at Queasy Cheesy or getting dropped off in the roach van. Why can a situation be okay when nobody sees, but humiliating if observed? Why do we care? Nikki is finally adjusting to life at her new school: she's made some real friends and her major crush, Brandon, has even asked to be her science partner!

It is hinted that Nikki hates Jessica Simpson, because her friends threatened her to force her listen to a CD of hers for two hours.
