Right out of the humidor, your cigars will be ready to be smoked and will burn perfectly till the end. In my experience, tightly rolled cigars will have the same burn issues that a 69% cigar will have near the end. So dry boxing for a few hours before smoking is suggested. However, we wouldn’t usually recommend smoking them at this level. While some people do and it’s a matter of personal preference, we will instead acclimate them to a higher RH level beforehand. This saturated solution is contained within a water-vapor permeable “reverse osmosis” membrane. Within a closed desktop humidor Bóveda maintains a predetermined level of (RH) by releasing or absorbing purified water-vapor—as needed—through the membrane. Close the lid and don’t open the humidor for 14 days—no matter what your hygrometer readings are. (The wait is worth it. Trust us.)

These can be put onto the underside of the lid using the supplied magnetic and velcro pads. However, they may be difficult to place as many humidors tend to have wooden frames on the lid for their supplied humidity devices. Bóveda provides the cleanest and most purified humidity of all other products available on the market today. In both cases, the hygrometer simply sits in the bag and you can then adjust its reading once 24 hours have elapsed. Admittedly, we have received a lot of criticism for this belief in the video above. Nevertheless, we believe that recharging isn’t worth the risk given their value for money and their overall affordability compared to the value of your cigars.

We would only use this as a short-term fail-safe or as a stop-gap, though, as we generally don’t recommend using an unreliable humidor. Instead, this could be a temporary solution while saving up or looking for a quality humidor where you won’t have this problem.

By the way, remember to remove them from their plastic wrapper first otherwise they won’t be activated! The mindset that humidors needs to be kept at 72% needs to go away. These ideas come from a time when there was no two way humidification and most people kept their smokes in a wooden humidor that would leak humidity. Times are changing and despite their ugly aesthetics, Tupperware humidors are the SUPERIOR option as they do not leak humidity and can be filled with cedar trays. Because tupperdors are air tight there is no reason to keep humidity above 65%, and you actually benefit from this lower humidity. I need to experiment with 62% because i think that is even more ideal. Nevertheless, these are usually relatively simple as they are often just glued or nailed into place. With a flat blade or screw-driver, they often pop right off. Still, be careful as you don’t want to damage the humidor and we can’t be held responsible if you do! Consequently, many cigar enthusiasts will regularly rotate their cigars inside the humidity and move them around to ensure that they receive similar amounts of humidity. However, it’s more of an art than a science and it can be easy to make mistakes even with experience. With a little experience, you’ll be able to decide on the specific humidity level that you prefer according to your personal preferences. Each humidity level can actually contribute to an altogether different smoking experience. Therefore, you can try different ones to see which you prefer.

Although the process it’s longer than traditional methods, it’s considerably thorougher. Therefore, it’s our recommend approach. If you weren’t aware of this essential process, we highly recommend that you look into it as a dry humidor isn’t just ineffective but detrimental to your cigars. Furthermore, traditional types of humidification devices will release concentrated amounts of moisture around a fixed perimeter, which may not always diffuse throughout the humidor. Use (1) Boveda Size 60 for every 25 TOTAL cigars your humidor can hold. Example: For a 100-cigar capacity humidor, use four (4) Size 60 Boveda at once. Don’t use Boveda in the same humidor with other humidification products because they will fight against each other and reduce the efficiency of Boveda. For instance, we’re not the only ones to have discovered the benefits of using low RH levels for long-term storage. If you’re seeking to age your cigars over the course of several years, you might want to consider a lower moisture level to optimise the process.

When we discovered Boveda, we realised that they offered the most simplest and care-free solution. is safer than the 72% for long aging. Smoking a cigar right out of the humidor @69% is really not a good idea from my experience. The first half will burn okay but will often not burn straight. Past the first half the moisture burning off from the first half should by now be saturating the end of the cigar and you will often encounter major burn issues with you cigar. Dissect a smoke nearing the final third and you will find the leaf inside to be extremely wet.
