Description

For activities like running, pool swimming, indoor rowing, core metrics are on the whole reliable. Both devices are better suited to 20-30 minute workout time as opposed to running or cycling for hours if you crave optimum accuracy. The HUNT Fitness Study indicates that people who maintain a PAI score of 100 or higher show lower risk of hypertension, heart disease, and type-2 diabetes. HUNT Fitness Study: This study was conducted by Professor Ulrik Wisloff of the Faculty of Medicine, Norwegian University of Science and Technology. It lasted for more than 35 years and had more than 230,000 participants. To use this function, all-day heart rate monitoring must be enabled. It's got a 5ATM waterproof rating, which means it's safe for showering and a swim up to 50 meters' depth. Based on our experience, it's capable of spending that time away from the charger but that really is dependent on what features you have turned on and use regularly. The star here is the screen. It's a high quality AMOLED screen that's colorful, bright, vibrant and is superior to screens that cost more (we're looking at you Fitbit).

Amazfit Band 5 review - Which?

Install and open the Amazfit app on your mobile phone, create an account and login, then select Band to pair. You're also getting those SpO2 readings carried out by the same sensor that delivers the heart rate data. We tested it against a dedicated pulse oximeter and found that readings were identical.

The idea of getting people to think more about heart rate than counting steps is actually a positive thing. It’s displayed nicely on the device, and if you want to see scores and get a better understanding of PAI scores, you'll find more detailed information in the Mi Fit app. The radio waves generated by the equipment may affect the normal operation of implanted medical equipment or personal medical equipment, such as pacemakers and hearing aids. If you use these devices, please consult their manufacturers for restrictions on using this device.

Always-on Display: When the screen is illuminated, it displays system content. When the screen is in standby mode, it displays the time. This function requires users to manually set "Always-on Display". The user can switch on or off this feature through the device settings or in the Zepp App. On the whole, it worked well. It was able to able to recognize queries correctly on the first attempt. It handled queries about the weather, upcoming sports fixtures and recipes, where it will prompt you as to whether you want to follow the recipe on the band. It's perhaps not the biggest screen to read a recipe on, but it works. The most obvious one is the touch button below the display. The Amazfit wearable has a circular one, the Xiaomi an oval one. Another difference is that the whole thing is a tiny bit larger than Mi Band. Its actual dimensions are47.2 x 18.5 x 12.4 mm.For core sports like running and swimming, it fares well from an accuracy point of view. Getting GPS support set up for outdoor activities is a bit fiddly because you need to head into the phone app to enable it, but once that’s done, you’ll be able to record key metrics like pace, distance and cadence, which we found to be pretty reliable. During testing it has been comfortable to wear in the day, during exercise and at night. It's never fallen off and the band hasn't cause any skin irritations or issues. For treadmill running, it's a similar story on the accuracy front, though you can calibrate to ensure you get more reliable data next time you jump on. There's a decent array of smartwatch features on board the Band 5. For starters, it's compatible with Android phones and iPhones. We had it paired with an Android phone and didn't experience any issues with pairing or syncing.

Amazfit Band 5 Review - Tech Advisor

Probably the weirdest thing on offer is being able to use the band as a remote control for the camera on your smartphone. Just open the camera app and set it up ready to capture the image, then tap the shutter button in the camera section of the band and bob’s your uncle. No idea what you’d need it for, but it’s a fun thing to have on-board. Sleep monitoring is included, with a breakdown of the hours you were in bed, plus an analysis of light and deep sleep. Again, this is a rough idea of your sleeping patterns, as my reports stated that I hardly ever reached deep sleep throughout the couple of weeks of wearing the band.

This is still the budget fitness tracker champ to beat

Just like Mi Band, Amazfit Band 5 has a 1.1 inch full colour AMOLED, with 2.5D curved glass protection. That’s actually a nice size for a fitness band. The colours are really vibrant and the text is quite sharp thanks to the126 x 294 pixel resolution and brightness up to 450 nits. The team has your best interest at heart, we care as much about your health as you do. There’s no built-in GPS so you will need to really on your smartphone’s satellite signal. It will suffice for the occasional run, but it’s no sports watch. Make sure you don’t forget to switch on Connected GPS if you’re running. Without it I found the band is pretty bad at figuring out your distance. What we found with the Band 5 is that it's a bit of a mixed bag in terms of what you can expect. When we took it running outside, you need to launch the app on your phone first before it can establish a GPS connection. I did a few measurements and they all came in between 95% and 100%. This is considered a healthy range. I also did a comparison of measurements with a few other devices, and the readings were always within a 2% margin. Which is not bad.

Amazfit Band 5 review: A budget fitness tracker - Wareable

If that's something that appeals. then the Amazfit Band 5 will be the one for you. Other than that, you're getting similar features with the Mi Band 6 giving you a bigger display to make use of them.

Using the touchscreen interface is a straightforward and responsive affair, with swiping up and down cycling you through a list of apps such as notifications, events, heart rate and other staples.
