Description

Lita weed barrier is a quality product weighing in at 125g/m2. You won’t have any trouble using this for landscaping and driveways. It’s tough, durable, and heavy duty but what I really like about it is the stripes. Seems trivial but it gives you an easy guide if you’re purchasing this for a raised strawberry bed, or any row planting for that matter. It’s a nice little touch. Makes for a smart garden with a layer of mulch on the surface. Ornamental bark or gravel look great for this

Weeds are the bane of gardeners’ lives and are especially a problem on any bare areas of soil, such as veg beds, left empty over winter.Clients often ask me to lay a fabric membrane to “suppress weeds”. This is usually as part of a plan to minimise maintenance, or specifically weed growth. In the vast majority of light-use constructions (patios, driveways, footpaths, etc) there is absolutely no need for a membrane to be placed between sub-base and the bedding layer: it achieves almost nothing, as a well-selected sub-base material will have what we call a 'tight' or 'close' finish, that is, there will be very few, if any, significant voids. Further: when constructing a sub-base, the good contractor will 'blind' the surface with fines or grit sand to ensure that there are no nasty voids that could gobble up the bedding material. Available Sizes: Large selection of rolls that come in widths of 1m, 1.5m, 2.0m, 3.3m, 4.2m, 4.5m and 5.0m wide.

The recommended minimum depth of gravel should be 50mm (5cm) placed over a heavy duty membrane. Any less depth and the membrane will be noticeable. To maintain the health of the soil beneath, the fabric is permeable. Water and nutrients can reach through, even though weeds won’t be able to grow. Therefore, it won’t ruin the ground beneath whilst the fabric is in place. And those covered with aggregate that looked so smart for a while. Now there is detritus gathering between the stones, enough for seeds to germinate. And once they penetrate the fabric… it’s a familiar tale. Offering good value for money, this GroundMaster Heavy Duty Weed Control Membrane delivers a generous amount of fabric at a reasonable price. Firstly you’ll also want to take this opportunity to level the area as best as possible. If you level the area, the result will be less gravel, or if you go for a nice Cotswold chip (which I didn’t) then the costs are amplified so getting a level area first is a really important factor. Here’s a look at another patch that was dug up and levelled too – this was next to the house and all muddy as you can see, not nice to have next to the house! We made a bit of a mess hence my son helping with the petrol pressure washer to clean up the patio 😀 Levelling your area well ready for the membrane – I learned the hard way on the bit between the sheds so I got this right! Use a high quality weed killer before laying your membrane to double up and be sure Woven Weed Membrane fabric is made by weaving polypropylene tapes together. Using this crisscross pattern makes the fabric super-strong but limits its drainage capabilities compared with the non-woven variety. The strength and hard-wearing qualities of woven weed membrane give it a high tensile strength, making it suitable for use under patios, paths, parking areas and for other applications where a high strength but economical membrane is essential.

It is a good idea to have a trug to hand to place the excavated soil from the planting hole whilst putting in the plants. Leaving soil on top of the Creating your perfect garden landscape can be hard work, but there are products out there that work all by themselves to make your life so much easier! Weed membrane fabrics are making a huge difference to modern gardens by stabilising the ground, improving drainage and filtration, separating aggregates and spreading imposed loads. Ensuring you choose the right weed membrane fabric for your project means understanding the differences between them – a key one being whether they are woven or non-woven. These are easy to cut with strong scissors, but strands fray off cut edges, leaving strips of plastic in the garden that can get tangled round machinery. You need to cut slits in the material with a knife to push through the barbed plastic ground pegs or to plant through. Both products completely prevented weed germination and raised the temperature of the soil by a few degrees above bare soil temperature. They were durable and could easily be reused. The garden membrane is 2M wide and 5M long. The overall size (area) of the weed control fabric is approx 10㎡. Permeable weave technology has helped create a system that allows light and moisture in, whilst protecting the soil from weeds. Available Sizes: As this fabric is mainly used in large civil engineering applications we only sell this fabric in a jumbo roll 4.5m x 100m

The Facts...

This sturdy material has a low carbon footprint and is fully compostable, leaving no synthetic residues. It was easy to cut and peg down and felt substantial and slightly woolly. The soil under the membrane remained moist and was 3°C warmer than bare soil. By the end of May there was a smattering of weed growth under the membrane, and the material itself didn’t show any deterioration so could be reused. Others on test Although Non-Woven Weed Membrane has a lower tensile strength than the woven type, it still offers great strength, durability and excellent drainage properties. Non-woven weed membrane is a felt-like fabric made by thermally bonding polypropylene or a mixture of polypropylene and polyester fibres and then finishing using needle punching, calendaring and other methods. This type of fabric is easier to cut, has a high water permeability rate and does not lose strength over time, in the same way as the woven fabric does, when used below ground. This makes it ideal for use beneath driveways and roads and in land and storm water drainage systems, where long-term ground stabilisation and filtration is required. Made from woven polypropylene, this membrane is easy to lay and cut. It can be trimmed to size using sharp scissors, and adjusted to fit any area, even if it is awkwardly shaped. The fabric is UV stabilised and shouldn’t degrade when exposed to the sun’s rays for long periods. It’s suitable for many different uses such as landscaping, driveways, flowerbeds and patios and is straightforward to lay. Available Sizes: We supply a large selection of rolls that come in widths of 1m, 1.5m, 2.0m, 3.3m, 4.2m, 4.5m and 5.0m wide.
