A home-run debut . . . With action, adventure and murders involving mystery books, it is sure to please every cozy mystery fan! I highly recommend adding The Book Club Murders to your Fall reading list.” —The Cozy Mystery Journal I thoroughly enjoyed this thriller. It drew me in with the title, especially being a book lover, and then I read the exciting and secretive blurb.

CLUB MURDERS a gripping murder mystery packed with THE SUPPER CLUB MURDERS a gripping murder mystery packed with

Much as I love to read about grisly murders and psychological drama, every now and again, my head needs a break and I look for something on the lighter side. When I saw the description of this cozy mystery - the first of a series - it sounded great on several levels. As the title suggests, it's centered around books and a group of rather stuffy women who get together to read and discuss mysteries as part of the Agathas Book Club - and as an avid reader of that genre, it couldn't be more perfect. Adding to the appeal is that the book is set in Oakwood, Ohio - a Dayton suburb quite familiar to me for the first 18 years of my life as I grew up on a farm perhaps 45 minutes away. I didn't hesitate to request an advance copy in exchange for an honest review, and I was elated when that request was approved. Charley Carpenter is a likable main character. As in most cozy mysteries, her love interest is the detective assigned to the case, Marc Trenault. The romance doesn't overshadow the mystery...there's just enough to sweeten the story. I like the fact that she is independent, intelligent and a strong woman. Nagel did an excellent job developing her characters. The wealthy members of the book club are irritatingly snobbish, but not overly so. Marc has just a bit of jerk thrown in among his good looks and charm. And, Charley's friends have personalities that help move the plot along nicely. All in all, a very well written cozy mystery and an excellent first novel!! I can't wait to read more by Leslie Nagel!Thank you. This isn’t one of our Book Club books. The most recent one we’ve done (as of this post) is The Rabbit Factor: https://crimefictionlover.com/2022/01/the-rabbit-factor-by-antti-tuomainen-2/ Isolated and insecure, Izzy is relieved to be embraced by a tightknit group of female neighbours, who invite her to join their book club. I can't believe I overlooked this author and haven't read any of his books before! Fleeing from her controlling boyfriend, Adam, Izzy finds refuge in her late aunt's house. Adam is hot on her tail and won’t leave her alone. Meeting more of her neighbours, she attends the local book club after being invited by Louise, her neighbour. The book club members are left wondering how Kate, a member, died. I was nervous about remembering all the characters because there were so many. Thankfully, I have the Kindle Scribe, allowing me to write my notes on the device. I adore that feature. I enjoyed reading about the history of Dun Loaghaire which is where Izzy lives now she’s moved into her Aunty Elaine’s house, it seems like such a beautiful place.

Written by Betsy Reavley — A group of nine women gather for a book club meeting in Cambridge. Can you think of a more innocuous premise for a work of crime fiction? There’s tea, homemade cake, even a bottle of wine… but all is not well with this lot. From the off, there’s an undercurrent that sets everyone on edge. Then, a mere few hours later, one of their group is dead. Who could have predicted that? We'll add publisher questions if and when they're available. In the meantime, use our generic mystery questions …then take off on your own:

When Izzy O’Brien flees the city center apartment she shared with her controlling partner, she relocates to the seaside town of Dun Laoghaire and the house she inherited from her aunt. I liked the premise of the story of it being centered around a mystery book club who call themselves "The Agathas". The story was well developed with mostly likeable characters. The MC sometimes drove me nuts, but I liked her. It's an interesting read that keeps you wanting to read. The Book Club Murders is the debut of the Oakwood Mystery series. Charlotte "Charley" Carpenter has settled into life in Oakwood, OH, living in her childhood home with her ailing father Bobby and his nurse Lawrence. Her vintage clothing shop, Old Hat Vintage Fashions is successful but always looking for a way to attract more of the society mavens she has joined the Agatha Book Club, along with BFF Frankie Bright.
