Description
Like many others I really liked the Pirates of Barracuda Bay, it was fun to build, nice to look at, could be a shipwreck hideout or a normal ship, and had an impressive amount of minifigures. Still there is always the option of making the pirates fight amongst themselves (something I never thought about at the time).
Ironhook commands the masted raft 6261 Raft Raiders (also known as 6261 Ironhook's Escape Craft) (1992) and the small pirate ship 6268 Renegade Runner (1993). However, there was only one more set released the following year, the 10210 Imperial Flagship (2010) which was the largest vessel in Lego Pirates ever released. This resulted in Lego having three factions in 1994 and 1995, with the Pirates battling the Imperial Guard on the high seas and disturbing the Islanders while seeking treasure. Building Techniques: How much skill do you think the creator of this MOC has, in terms of building technique? was also the last year for the Islanders who had not seen any new releases since 1994 nor had their minifigures featured as guests in other factions' sets.
Opposing the Pirates were the Imperial Soldiers led by Governor Broadside and his second-in-command Lieutenant de Martinet. It must be noted that the cost worked out as three of these ships compared to one Black Sea Barracuda or Skull Eye’s Schooner, and a fleet of three of these looks really nice (especially if you have a Schooner or Barracuda following behind). This set has a new pirate (the one with the hook known as Ironhook) and we see one of the regular pirates sporting a fashionable peg leg.Captain Redbeard is in command of five pirate ships: Black Sea Barracuda (1989), Skull's Eye Schooner (1993), Red Beard Runner (1996), Crossbone Clipper (1997) and The Brick Bounty (2015). Imperial Flagship 6271 or Sea Lion as it was in the UK Catalogue, this was my 7th birthday present in 1994, my only ship and a nice one as well. Now we see another reason why these years are looked back with such fondness, this ship has been argued by many as the better of the two pirate ships, It contains all that the previous ship contained, but also came with a nicer colour scheme (the red and white works really well) there is also the inclusion of an extra sail at the back and the pirate figure head at the front looks better (in my opinion). He commanded the ship “The Barracuda”, however the captain did not appear in any of the official Pirate Lego sets. He wears a massive, carved red face mask topped with white feathers, a face painted white and blue, a necklace made out of teeth and a large round medallion, a red sash around his waist (which was probably a present given to him by a passing ship's captain) and a grass skirt.
