In the UK there is a similar debate regarding foxes (it's not really any different.) We destroy their environment (sometimes building our homes directly in it) and get all defensive when they end up on our doorstep. We do not accommodate for them and label them as pests. Wild animals will always be dangerous and aggressive, if they have no food and are clinging to life, if they are forced into our space then it's not their fault. Rather than looking to destroy such animals, more humane alternatives should be perused. In 2015, MGM, which had released the 1982 film, acquired the rights to the book to adapt it into a live-action/animated film. Michael Berg was set to adapt it, while Daniel Bobker and Ehren Kruger were attached to produce. [15] After O'Brien's death in 1973, his daughter Jane Leslie Conly wrote two sequels to Mrs. Frisby and the Rats of NIMH. [7] Plot summary [ edit ]

Don't even get me started on the topic of rats. I'd rather face a Tyrannosaurus rex than a rat, and I'm not kidding). The Rats was followed by three sequels, Lair (1979), Domain (1984) and The City (1993) (the last one was a graphic novel). All three books were sold as a trilogy and were very well received by the public and horror fans.

This is the Newberry Award winning book for 1973, and this was there main reason I wanted to read it. Normally it's a mixed bag with books that win this award for me, but this time I can say this book deserved the award. This is a really good book. This is my firsr James Herbert book. Yes I have some criticisms but to have written this as his first novel is actually outstanding, this is now one of my new favourite horror stories If you’re doing the same at home, please imagine every time you read the word “rats” that it is delivered as it is in that song. It will make the review significantly more entertaining.

The female can have from five to eight liters a year with anything from four to twelve in a liter. Then the randy buggers are at it again in a couple of hours."

a b Weber, Bruce (24 March 2013). "James Herbert, British Horror Novelist, Dies at 69". The New York Times. James John Herbert, OBE (8 April 1943 – 20 March 2013) [1] was an English horror writer. A full-time writer, he also designed his own book covers and publicity. His books have sold 54 million copies worldwide, and have been translated into 34 languages, including Chinese and Russian. [2] Biography [ edit ]It suffers very much from “first novel syndrome”. We have a rather dull everyman lead (who may be the least interesting character in the entire book, save for some unnamed tourists... and the tourists are possibly debatable). The book is structured almost like a series of short stories, with most chapters being random citizens chased/devoured by rats in a new and creative way, while our lead just happens to tie together everything together in a few interconnected chapters.

The rats of NIMH were inspired by the research of John B. Calhoun on mouse and rat population dynamics at the National Institute of Mental Health from the 1940s to the 1960s. [6]Toward the end of the book, Sullivan observes that rats in fact, are not unlike human’s in many ways in that: However, it's far more GROSS than any '70's television show could be. This is 'pre-splatter-punk', right up there with "The Wizard of Gore" kinda' imagery from the Drive-In of yesteryear.
